Hello everyone! Last night my hubby and I made a delicious steak dinner with mashed potatoes and salad. It was amazing!
Here is the dinner table all set up before anyone had sat down. It isn't the best quality photo, sorry! On the right, you can see my one fall decoration! The wire pumpkin with burlap and silk leaves was on sale for $10 in Shopko's holiday clearance section.
My husband cooked the steaks on the BBQ after they had been marinated for about two hours in Lawry's Steak Marinade. This gave the sirloins some extra flavor, as they were just your basic steaks, nothing fancy. The salad was just iceberg lettuce with roma tomatoes, because my husband is a picky salad eater. I added spinach and kale to mine.
When boiling the potatoes, I use the "wooden spoon trick" to keep them from boiling over. I think (and don't quote me on this) that the wooden spoon keeps the water from overflowing, because the wood is absorbing some of the water while it sits on top of the pot. This particular wooden spoon is from the Martha Stewart Collection at Macy's and came in a pack of three for $16.99. The pot was also from Macy's 2013 Analon Cookware collection.
To make my potatoes I mash them up with a cube of salted butter and some heavy cream with salt and pepper to taste. If your potatoes aren't very smooth, try adding more heavy cream. Last night, I mixed it up a little bit and also added two tablespoons of sour cream and some garlic powder for garlic mashed potatoes (my cousin ate with us last night and those are his favorite). I know that there is nothing healthy about this dinner, but when it comes to feeding my family it is about using wholesome ingredients, organic when possible, and full of nutrients. If you are drinking water and exercising regularly, then a few extra calories don't mean a thing. Everything in moderation, right?
Yum yum yum! Steak and potatoes is always a favorite at our house and just writing this post makes me want to heat up some leftovers! Comment on how your family does steak dinner and mashed potatoes. What are your favorite dishes?
